*Goodwill VISTA* Migrant Edu. Program Services Coordinator

According to the US Department of Education “The goal of the Migrant Education Program is to ensure that all migrant students reach challenging academic standards and graduate with a high school diploma (or complete a HSED) that prepares them for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment” (https://results.ed.gov/). The community that the AmeriCorps VISTA member will be serving are migrant students and out-of-school-youths regionally located throughout New Hampshire. According to the National Center for Farmworker Health, 44% of migratory farmworkers reported an income below poverty thresholds (https://www.ncfh.org/naws-fact-sheet.html). In addition, migratory farmworkers often have no health insurance benefits, paid leave, pensions, workers' compensation benefits, overtime pay, life insurance or other benefits. Migrant students often have insecure housing and interrupted education. The Migrant Education Program in New Hampshire is housed in the Division of Learner Supports within the Bureau of Instructional Support, and “The mission of this bureau is to improve the achievement of students by providing educational leadership through accountability and academics. As authorized by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act, this Bureau also provides technical assistance and professional development opportunities in the implementation of federal grant programs through the Office of ESEA Title Programs” (https://www.education.nh.gov/who-we-are/division-of-learner-support/bureau-of-instructional-support).
