Wake County Food Security Program

Wake County Cooperative Extension is integrated within Wake County Human Services, allowing us to address hunger, youth development, and public health all from one office. Since March 2020 we have served over 8.6 million meals and have vaccinated 100,000 of our residents. Covid-19 continues to impact our community, and our office takes an integrated, community centered approach to our service model. We are seeking six motivated individuals to assist with meal and food distribution to food insecure families, to provide information, education, and access to Covid-19 testing and vaccination, and to serve vulnerable youth at 4H Summer Day Camps. We are seeking responsible, flexible and enthusiastic team players who are eager to learn about public health and serve the community. Applicants must have some availability on evenings and weekends and reliable transportation.

Member Duties : Members will serve with a dynamic team across departments to support summer food sites, community events, vaccine sites and 4-H day camps. This includes: getting food to designated, food insecure locations; assembling and distributing educational grab and go bags for youth; delivering direct education to vulnerable youth at 4H camps; assembling and distributing materials and information on community resources; as well as providing information, education, and access to Covid-19 testing and vaccines. Because our work is directly integrated with public health and youth development, members will do a variety of tasks each day. A member is expected to be available on evenings and weekends, and the schedule may alter to accommodate community events.
