12 HOC VISTA Hands On Asheville-Buncombe Stdnt Acad Success
 
 
 
The 2012-2013 HandsOn Corps VISTA program will develop sustainable systems for parental and community engagement that directly improve student success, support teacher led efforts and initiatives, provide community and parent enrichment opportunities, and engage students in service to their school and community. Hands On Asheville-Buncombe and the Middle School Success program of the United Way will work together with the YMCA's 21st Century Community Learning Center program at Enka Middle School to create and implement a community school pilot project. Hands On Asheville-Buncombe, the volunteer program of the United Way, and Middle School Success will assist in the creation and implementation of the Community School pilot program by creating volunteer programs to support student success and parental engagement.

Member Duties : 1.Research Community Schools model and create resource outlining findings 2.With Parental/Community Support VISTA, conduct/attend community events; engage community leaders; conduct community mapping at school/surrounding community; engage members on the Community Advisory Council 3.Create plan to deliver development resources to students 4.Participate in program quality improvement planning using YPQA and DAP 5.Create/implement a volunteer program. Train/manage volunteers 6.Outreach to community orgs--faith-based orgs, nonprofit partners, etc. 7.Create/edit volunteer management resources to track all volunteers 8.Create/edit surveys to track changes in knowledge, behavior, attitudes of program participants. 9.Create resources (brochures, informational handouts, etc.) throughout the year 10.Help create a resource fair connecting parents to service providers and building community 11.Fundraise to support programmatic activities
