The Center for Academic Enrichment & Outreach at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, oversees the Adult Educational Services (AES) Program to significantly increase the number of first generation, low income adults who enter into programs of post secondary education. AES is designed to enable eligible adults (19 years of age and older) to maneuver the college admission and financial aid process. In addition to this, students who have not completed secondary education are assisted with GED completion. As an AmeriCorps member, you will serve 900 hours (20 hours/week), receive a living allowance up to $8,100 and a post-service Education Award of $2,865, gain additional training opportunities and have a challenging, rewarding experience serving the community!

Member Duties : The member will assist the Adult Educational Services (AES) staff in delivering services to pre-college adult students. The member will: Assist with the recruitment of AES program participants. Assist in the delivery of the GED pre-test to participants in the AES program. Assess participants educational skill level using GED pre-test results. Assist participants in establishment of a personal (Educational Plan) to proceed to appropriate course of action. Assist with the coordination of referral services. Assist with Limited English Proficient program course instruction and coordination. Assist with coordinating certain counseling/advising aspects of the program, including but not limited to academic advising and course selection, study skills, personal concerns, career exploration and preparation.
