LRGVDC EDA Economic and Community Development VISTA
 
 
 
The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council serves as the regional planning commission, council of governments, and the economic development district for the three-County region of Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy. The Lower Rio Grande Valley is one of the fastest growing areas of the country with advances in economic development opportunities such as SpaceX, numerous binational initiatives and the expansions of The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. The community and economic development planner under the AmeriCorps VISTA program will entail regional research, studies and planning associated with economic development and tourism areas of the region. The areas Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) and the updates to this plan will be of importance in this role as well.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will alleviate poverty by assisting disadvantaged communities with economic development activities that will increase and retain job opportunities in the region. The VISTA will work under minimal supervision and may be allowed remote work with a flexible start date from June to August 2022. The VISTA will also conduct research and studies in relation to community and economic development resources, projects and programs; Assist in the facilitation of stakeholder and committee meetings; Develop and update economic and tourism profiles of the region and community; Identify opportunities for regional economic development; Prepare and present data, reports, and spreadsheets for funding opportunities; Promote the region to support and expand economic and tourism development; May serve as the point of contact for a program or division.
